Linear Equations-----Lines
Slope/y-intercept form: y = mx + b
slope b = y- intercept OR pt(0, b)
Graphing lines
1) Solve the equation for y
2) Find the slope(m) and the y-int(b)
3) Start by graphing the y-int(b) then do the slope from that
point.
4) Draw a long straight line and label.
Solving a system of equations graphically
1) Graph each line and label
2) Label their point of intersection, (x, y).
3) Check that point into both equations.
Graphing Inequality Systems
1) Solve each equation for y
2) Find the slope(m) and the y-int(b)
3) Start by graphing the y-int(b) then do the slope from that
point.
4) Either draw a solid line if "equal to" Or draw a
dotted line if "not equal to"
5) Either shade up if "greater than"
Or shade down if "less than"
6) Label solution set with S and label each line
Writing an equation of a line
1) find the slope and y-intercept of your line
2) substitute the slope, m and the y-intercept, b into y = mx
+ b.
Parallel lines have equal slopes.
Perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes.
Solving a system of equations Algebraically
1) Set up the equations to eliminate one variable (by
multiplication if necessary)
2) Add the equations together to make one equation with one
variable and solve.
3) Use that value to find the value of the other variable by
going back to one original equation.
4) Check the point (x,y) found into the other equation.
