Monomials

Adding: Add like terms by adding coefficients.    ex.    4ab + -2ab = 2ab
Subtracting: Subtract one monomial from another like monomials, add the opposite of the second number.
ex.    4ab -- (-2ab) = 6ab         ex.    6x² - x² = 5x²
Multiply monomials:
    1. Multiply the numerical coefficients.
    2. When variable factors are powers with the same base, multiply by adding exponent ex.    2x²(5x³) = 10x⁵
Divide monomials:
    1. Divide their numerical coefficients.
    2. When variable factors are powers with the same base, divide by subtracting exponents.
    ex.     20x²⁰divided by (5x³) = 4x¹⁷
Finding a Power of a Power: Expand and multiply. ex. (6x³)² = (6x³)(6x³) = 36x⁶
The Zero Exponent: x⁰ = 1 if x is a number such that x doesn't equal 0.     ex.    (5x)⁰ = 1
The negative integral exponent: x^-n = 1/xⁿ     ex. 2^-5=1/2⁵ = 1/32
